THAD N. SHOWS PROMOTED TO PRESIDENT OF FIRST AMERICAN’S MARKETLINX® SOLUTIONS

SANTA ANA, Calif., Aug. 26, 2005 –MarketLinx Solutions, a division of First American Residential Group and a member of The First American Corporation family of companies, today announced the promotion of Thad N. Shows to president, effective Aug. 26, 2005. In his new role, Shows will report to Stephen C. Roney, president and chief executive officer of First American Residential Group. Shows replaces Doyal H. Hodge who has transitioned into a consultative role for MarketLinx, where he will continue to provide guidance on the company’s strategic direction.

“Thad’s transition to president will be seamless, as he and Doyal have worked side by side to lead the company for approximately eight years,” states Roney. “This quality and depth of leadership is one of the key reasons that First American acquired MarketLinx several years ago. We thank Doyal for all of his hard work and support of the company, and appreciate his continued input as the company moves forward.”

Along with Hodge, Shows was one of the original five founders of the company, which has since grown to provide technology services to more than 285,000 real estate professionals nationwide and is the industry’s largest provider of Web-based multiple listing systems (MLS) services. The promotion to president is in recognition of the key role Shows has played in the continued growth and technology development of the company.

Serving as the company’s vice president and overseeing software development, Shows played an instrumental role in MarketLinx’s launch of the country’s first stand alone browser-based system in 1997. MarketLinx’s TEMPO™ software provides a comprehensive array of MLS functionality and is currently used by more major MLSs than any other browser-based software system, supporting MLSs ranging in size from 1,000 to more than 33,000 subscribers. MarketLinx is also the leading provider of real estate transaction standard (RETS) systems within the industry, providing standard data transmission technology in support of RETS interfaces from REALTOR® systems.
